Making chess relaxed, accessible & fun for all!

Ever thought about playing chess but felt a bit intimidated by all those serious chess nerds?

Well… we’re (not-so-serious) chess nerds who believe everyone should be able to come along, pull up a chair and give chess a go.

Welcome to Social Chess at FunHaus Factory - where chessboards meet lo-fi beats, cheeky lunchtime beverages and a delicious spread of burgers & street eats. Think strategy, laughs and laid-back connection in our colourful arts bar.

Whether you're a total beginner, a bit rusty after years away, newly inspired after watching Queen’s Gambit, or someone who once thought chess was slow and boring - this is your chance to experience the game in a relaxed, social way.

Eclectic soundtrack setting the mood

Yummy burgers & street eats available

Cheeky lunchtime beverages flowing

Friendly games, new connections & a little competitive spice

The flow of the afternoon:

First Hour – Learn & Loosen Up
Free play plus a relaxed intro session for anyone wanting to brush up on the basics or learn the ropes.

Second Hour – Blitz & Bragging Rights
A casual mini blitz tournament (5-minute games) for those feeling competitive — and plenty of spectating fun for sideline strategists.

Third Hour – Chill & Socialise
Wind down with more casual games, conversations and connection.

Come challenge your friends, meet new chess buddies, or simply enjoy the vibe. Whether you’re here for the strategy, the soundtrack, the burgers, or the banter — Social Chess is all about making the game playful, social and just a little bit fabulous.

This is an all ages event (under 18s to be accompanied by an adult)

If you’re driving, street parking and public parking is available in Baker St car park (enter via Erina St near Gosford hotel and ground floor parking is free)
